Carbon Neutral Calling
We have recently achieved Carbon Neutral accreditation, through partnership with the Carbon Trust and Carbon Footprint organisations, and the whole team couldn’t be prouder.

Early 2019 saw XL Joinery achieve Carbon Neutral Accreditation and we couldn’t be prouder, through partnership with the Carbon Trust and Carbon Footprint organisations, and the whole team couldn’t be prouder. Our business wouldn’t exist without carefully managed forests, which are the source of the beautiful timber that every XL Joinery door relies upon, so we’re happy to be supporting projects that help sustain and improve the environment for the future and the communities that live there.
As part of our Carbon Neutral offset scheme we’re already planting plenty of trees, but we’ve also been active in supporting global projects like the Portel-Para Deforestation Project in the Amazon. The scheme works to prevent the loss of native forests, avoiding over 22 million tonnes of carbon emissions over the next 40 years. Local villagers are trained and employed to monitor the conservation of timber reserves, which sounds like the kind of positive community that we love to recognise.
Our contribution is also supporting the Mariposas Hydroelectric Power Project in Chile’s Talca province, generating electricity from renewable hydrological resources by recycling water already used throughout the local community. The employment provided by the project will provide a valuable lifeline for local people, plus the technology takes the place of traditional coal or gas generation. The result is an estimated annual reduction of 21,000 tCO2e.
But it’s not all about big overseas projects. We’ve been working to reduce our output at home too, replacing 550 warehouse skylights to provide natural daylight, installing PIR automatic switches on LED lighting circuits and transitioning to electric vehicles on the warehouse floor. We’re also continuing to introduce a raft of further energy-saving measures throughout our headquarters and it’s helped us become a more mindful business and given us something to think about after we clock off too.
