Interior Colour Trends 2022/23

As the days get chillier and the nights get longer, it can only mean one thing: the year is coming to an end, and what a year it’s been!

For interior design, 2022 has been the year of rejuvenation and connecting with nature, and that has certainly been reflected in this year’s colour trends. So, as 2022 draws to a close, we look back on the most popular interior colours throughout the year as well as what’s next for 2023.

Forest Greens

See – we told you 2022 was all about connecting with nature!

Forest-style greens have been popping up everywhere this year, and are truly reflective of the ever-increasing mindfulness and self-care movement which encourages people to take a step back and move a little more slowly.

Neutral Greys

Following the rise of influencers such as Mrs Hinch and Stacey Soloman, homeowners have flocked to buy neutral grey furniture and paint in their millions.

Associated with a calm and peaceful yet modern and clean home, what was once the lesser chosen colour over classics such as white and magnolia, the use of grey in our homes has exploded in recent months and throughout 2022.

Bold Reds

In a lot of ways, 2022 has been the year of making a statement in our homes. After facing two years locked away from the world during the COVID-19 pandemic, 2022 has been the year of socialising again, and that means visiting each other’s homes.

And in order to make a statement, many homeowners are opting for bold reds to help bring some life back into their property. Whether that be in the form of delicate pops of colour or going wild with red internal doors or walls, we simply couldn’t discuss internal colour trends without mentioning this!

Pantone Colour of the Year 2022: Very Peri

Continuing with the bold theme here, Pantone’s 2022 colour of the year was Very Peri.

A blue with certain purple tones, Very Peri is described as ‘A New Pantone Colour Whose Courageous Presence Encourages Personal Inventiveness and Creativity’ – and we couldn’t agree more. We imagine this won’t be the last we’ll see of this bold blue!

What’s Next For 2023?

In contrast to Pantone’s bold colour of the year for 2022, Dulux has announced their colour of the year for 2023: Wild Wonder.

Described as ‘a light, earthy shade with a glowing tone [bringing] energy and positivity to living and working spaces, connecting us with the natural world’, Wild Wonder appears to be continuing the trend of connecting with ourselves and nature.

At XL Joinery, we can help bring your colour visions to life with our painting and staining services for your internal doors. Whether you’re looking to try out the Wild Wonder trend, or perhaps you’re looking for something bolder, have a look at our Colours by XL range, to see if we can make your dream of a home that’s perfectly suited to your tastes come to life.
