What is etched glass?

Etched glass, also known as sandblasted glass, is a type of decorative glass made by obscuring clear glass to create a decorative design.

Etched glass for internal doors

Internal doors with decorative glass panels are very popular, and etched glass is one of the oldest forms of decorative glass available. While interior design trends have moved on a lot since its first use, glass etching is still a stylish and contemporary choice for the doors in your home.

How is etched glass made?

A vinyl mask printed with a decorative design or pattern is placed over clear glass. The glass is left exposed on the areas where it needs to be etched. The glass is then sandblasted with a machine that scratches the glass with tiny particles under extremely high pressure. Once this is complete, the vinyl mask is peeled away to reveal the clear areas of glass left unmarked by the process.

Why choose etched glass?

Many homeowners choose glazed internal doors to let more natural light into their homes. With some forms of decorative glass, this light is reduced slightly because of lead strips or other features of the design. Etched glass doors are pure clear glass with no additional materials so any obstructions to the light are minimised and you can still let natural light flow between rooms.
