Natural light is incredibly important in our homes. Not only can it help make spaces look brighter and airier, it can improve mood as well as contribute towards increased productivity and help boost Vitamin D intake. Unfortunately not all houses or flats take advantage of day light as well as they could – here are some ways to add more natural light to your home.
1. New doors
A great way to get more light into your home is to invest in new doors. These can be external doors or internal doors which contract and allow more light in when open. Larger panes of glass can also let much more sunlight into your home, making it more cheery during the day as well as allowing warmth in. As glass can be double or triple glazed nowadays more panes do not mean your home will be any less energy efficient either.
2. New windows
Windows are also a common way to get more light into your home. In some older buildings it may be more difficult to fit new or bigger windows, in the case a sky light or roof lantern could be an option for the top level of a house.
3. Mirrors
If structurally the doors or windows cannot be altered than well positioned mirrors can make a big difference to the amount of light in your home. You should position mirrors so that they reflect the natural light which is available during the day and help bounce light off lamps during the evening.
